Wow, Twitter is SO dead
Twitter is dead. And I don’t mean it in the novice-Mastodon-user “oh my god, this is so much better than Twitter!!” kind of way — it really is dead.
Try to look around just for a bit, and you’ll most likely find nothing but ragebait and morally questionable people making dubious claims.
Since the algorithm has clearly been changed in Musk’s favor (and in benefit of his politics), it’s become ground for some really nasty opinions and people.
It’s not a matter of “free speech” it’s a matter of “I don’t want to spend money on moderation, and I don’t want to be held accountable for deplatforming those people who are on par with my ideology”.
Every argument you may have will just be low-hanging fruit. Logical fallacies abound in this realm, and the algorithm only rewards emotionally charged—and potentially incorrect — information.
So as soon as you come in with a single reliable source, or just a bit of logic or common sense by your side, you’ve almost certainly won the battle—although, not everybody will necessarily agree.
I can say with confidence that you can win almost any argument in Twitter in less than two posts. Albeit, not without being called the r slur once or twice.
Twitter is no longer a place for debate, it’s an echo chamber for people who are absolutely devoid of principles.
Mastodon is not perfect, however, the decline of Twitter remarks on the importance of keeping social media democratic and fair for everyone.
The federated model of the Fediverse has aided us in fostering a healthy community for years on end. With no problematic billionaire that can get in the way.
