My Site Went EVIL
Hey guys! Just thought I’d drop by to let you know my site has gone evil.
I was tired of paying 12EUR/mo on my Hetzner VPS, and I realized that, for a static site, a VPS is just overkill.
I initially got my VPS as a means of “future-proofing” my cloud computing capacity. I also shortly hosted a short-lived Minecraft server and a fediverse instance, both of which are now down. This is why I decided to make a full backup and fully quit the VPS life.
I changed my nameservers over to CloudFlare, and am now hosting the entire site with CloudFlare Pages. Now all of the complexity has been moved away from deploy shell scripts to WebHooks I am not managing.
While my idealist FOSSbro self is crying in a corner, my pragmatic self has come to realize life is too short to give so many fucks about these things. If anything goes wrong, I own the source code and the domain anyway!
There are so many fucks you can give, I have decided I’d rather spend my fucks getting better sleep, socializing, eating better food and exercising. Mad respect to y’all idealists, though!
I am keeping my internet handle, I’m keeping my corner on the small web, but I have decided not to bother with hosting.
Who knows, maybe I’ll figure out some alternative in the future! Admittedly, though, the protections against AI scrapers are… Very quite nice.
PS: I found a bug that capped the amount of posts to five unless you’re using RSS so… whoops? Anyway, the site now supports pagination. Sorry about that. Now you can enjoy my 2023 posts again if you want to see those for some reason!
